Exceeding ten students violates standards, while restricting to six or eight is not required under ideal conditions with an assistant.

Starting a dive by swimming into the current ensures divers have maximum energy and air supply to combat the flow, allowing for an easier, current-assisted return. Swimming with the current initially often leads to exhaustion and out-of-air emergencies when trying to return against it.

To find the MOD, divide the PO2 limit by the fraction of oxygen (1.4 / 0.21 = 6.66 ata). To convert ata to depth in meters, subtract 1 and multiply by 10 ((6.66 – 1) * 10 = 56.6 meters). The other depths represent incorrect mathematical applications or different gas mixtures.

The Equivalent Air Depth formula calculates a shallower ‘theoretical’ depth based on the reduced nitrogen fraction in Nitrox compared to air. This allows divers to safely use standard air decompression tables or dive computers set to air, as their actual nitrogen loading matches the shallower air depth.

Henry’s Law states that the amount of gas that will dissolve in a liquid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of that gas. As depth (and pressure) increases, more nitrogen dissolves into the diver’s tissues, including the lipid-rich nervous system, which directly causes the anesthetic effect known as nitrogen narcosis.

NAUI emphasizes student-centered, active learning where students apply knowledge practically rather than passively receiving information. Collaborative problem-solving ensures comprehension and retention, whereas lecturing or demonstrating without student participation is ineffective.

Thrashing, inflating the BCD, or blindly slashing can worsen entanglement and lead to panic or gear damage. Kelp is strong under tension but snaps easily when bent; remaining calm and systematically breaking the stalks or relying on a buddy is the safest and most effective self-rescue technique.
